How to boost your immunity for baby and mum during Covid-19?
Are you worried about your baby's health and your own health during this crisis period?
Worry no more as we got you covered! Read on to find out some tips on how to stay safe and boost your immunity!
1. Go organic
Organic produce has a significantly more diverse bacteria population, especially when eaten raw, since cooking would destroy these good bugs. Research have shown many benefits from consuming fermented foods and drinks like kimchi, kombucha, kefir and sauerkraut which contain a natural synergy of many different types of yeasts and bacteria.
2. Enjoy some sunshine (Vitamin D)
Sunshine is good for immunity and bad for viruses.
One reason that flu is a winter problem is because the influenza virus is transmitted best at cooler temperatures and low humidity. Research suggests that sunshine makes disease-fighting cells in the skin move faster and work more efficiently.
The World Health Organisation suggests five to 15 minutes of casual sun exposure a few times a week is more than sufficient to keep Vitamin D levels topped up.
Public Health England advises that adults and children over the age of one should consider taking a daily supplement containing ten micrograms of Vitamin D, particularly during autumn and winter.
3. Take Probiotics
One interesting piece of research suggested that taking probiotic supplements is linked to a reduced likelihood of getting colds, and making them shorter in duration and less severe.
4. Practice Good Personal Hygiene
Wear a face mask, if necessary. If your child is above the age of 3, they can wear a face mask to reduce chances of virus transmission. If your child is under the age of 3, wearing a face mask is not recommended. Instead, other family members can wear masks to protect themselves.
Avoid sharing utensils, food or drinks. Try to keep your child in their room and away from communal areas of the house since the virus is spread via droplets and contact.
Both you and your child should practise good hand hygiene by regularly washing hands with soap and water.Avoid sharing toys during this period of illness.
Do disinfect your child’s toys and their surroundings with 75% alcohol (eg. ethanol and isopropyl alcohol solutions) or chlorine-containing disinfectants rather than anti-bacterial wipes.
5. Stay Away From Crowded Areas
Prevention is better than cure. Try to avoid places where people are most crowded, or avoid office lunch hours or dinner time to prevent being risk to the exposure of the coronavirus. Wear a mask if necessary and avoid rush hour or peak period whereby the chance of human to human contact may be higher.
